K2 Base Integration - Complete Workflow Guide
Overview
The K2 Base integration connects Eturnity Expert with K2 Base for professional mounting system dimensioning. This workflow allows you to design PV systems in Expert, perform detailed structural planning in K2 Base, and import accurate bills of materials back to Expert—all with automated data transfer.
Value: K2 Base provides structural validation (wind/snow loads) and generates precise component lists with all rails, clamps, hooks, and mounting hardware needed for installation.
Step 1: Link Your Accounts
Connect your Eturnity Expert and K2 Base accounts using an authentication token. This is a one-time setup per user.
Generate Token in Eturnity Expert
- Navigate to Settings > Integrations > K2 Base
- Click Generate Token
- Click Copy Token to copy your unique authentication token
Save Token in K2 Base
- Log in to your K2 Base account
- Click your user name (top right) and select Settings
- Paste your token in the Eturnity Authentication Token field
- Click Save
- Your accounts are now linked
Step 2: Prepare and Export Your Project
After planning your PV project in Expert, mark it for transfer to K2 Base.
Requirements for Transfer
Your project must meet these conditions:
- Uses 3D layout (2D layouts cannot be transferred)
- Uses K2 mounting systems exclusively
- All module fields on the same roof use the same K2 mounting system type
- Contains at least one roof with modules
Export Process
- Open your project and click K2 Base in the left project menu
- Select the project variant you want to transfer
- Click Transfer Project Data to K2
- Wait for the success confirmation
- Click Open K2 Base to launch K2 Base
Important: Clicking "Transfer Project Data to K2" only marks your project as ready for export—no data is transferred until you import it in K2 Base (next step). This allows you to continue making changes in Expert until you're ready to plan in K2.
Step 3: Import and Plan in K2 Base
Import your project into K2 Base to perform detailed mounting system planning and structural validation.
- In K2 Base, click Open Project from K2+ on the dashboard
- Select Eturnity from the integration options
- Choose your project from the list (shows all projects where you're the project manager)
- Click Create Project to import
- Complete the planning in K2 Base
Step 4: Export Bill of Materials to Expert
After completing your K2 planning, export the detailed bill of materials back to Eturnity Expert.
- In K2 Base, navigate to the Summary step
- Click K2+ Eturnity Export on the left sidebar
- Select Eturnity
- Expert opens automatically with the import modal displayed
Configure Import Settings
The bill of materials is divided into two sections:
New Components (top section): Components not yet in your library
- Define Purchase Discount (percentage off K2 list price)
- Define Margin (your markup percentage)
- Set Exchange Rate if needed (K2 prices are in EUR)
- Click Apply to All Positions
Existing Components (bottom section): Components already in your library
- Prices are taken from your library settings
- Quantities are updated based on K2 planning
- Review all components and pricing
- Click Import
- Choose to import to project only or also create library components
- Click Apply
Step 5: Understanding the Collective Position
The imported K2 bill of materials appears as a collective position named K2 Components in your project BOM.
This collective position contains all mounting system components from K2 Base. You can:
- Choose whether to display sub-positions in detail on customer proposals
- View individual components and quantities within the collective position
- Manually adjust prices if needed
Layout Synchronization: After importing, verify that your module count in Expert matches the K2 planning. If K2's layout differs, you may need to adjust your 3D layout or use the "Custom Amount of Modules" feature.
Why Can't I Transfer My Project?
If your project variant appears greyed out on the K2 Base page, check these common causes:
- "Project variants that do not exclusively use K2 mounting systems cannot be transferred"
→ Verify all module fields use K2 mounting systems only - "You cannot transfer project variants without roof and panel fields created"
→ Create a 3D layout with at least one roof and module field - "You cannot transfer project variants that contain roofs with different K2 mounting system types"
→ Ensure all module fields on each roof use the same K2 mounting system type - "You cannot transfer project variants that do not use 3D layout"
→ Create a 3D variant instead of 2D
Understanding Project Status
The integration uses a "Ready for Export" status to manage project transfers:
- Marking for Export: Clicking "Transfer Project Data to K2" in Expert marks the project as "Ready for Export" but doesn't transfer data yet
- Making Changes: You can modify your layout in Expert after marking for export—changes are visible when you import to K2
- Multiple Imports: You can import the same Expert project multiple times in K2, creating separate K2 projects for each import
- Unmarking After Import: When you import the K2 BOM back to Expert, the project is automatically unmarked as "Ready for Export"
- Re-exporting: To transfer the project again after importing the BOM, click "Transfer Project Data to K2" again
Tip: Since each import to K2 creates a new project, you can have multiple K2 planning versions from one Expert project. Make sure you're working with the latest version when exporting back to Expert.
